2010 lexus rx 450h review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, with more technology but less complexity. introductionas vehicles become more complex, driving becomes more like operating a computer. Yet the new 2010 lexus rx 350 and rx 450h seems uncommonly easy to operate. And they are brimming with new technology. Mechanical improvements for the all-new lexus rx include an independent rear suspension, a 10-airbag safety system, a six-speed sequential transmission, and an improved all-wheel-drive system. Upgraded accommodations include better seats, integrated satellite radio, acoustic glass, automatic high beam control, and a heads-up display among other things. Many of the improvements are due to more and better computer logic for integrated control of driving systems such as the transmission, all-wheel-drive, navigation, steering and brakes. Perhaps the key interior upgrade is the introduction of a mouse-like controller which lexus calls remote touch. It's used instead of a touch screen to operate climate, audio and the navigation system. compared to competing suvs, such as the current acura mdx, mercedes ml 350 and bmw x5 3. 0, the rx 350 gets better mileage and cleaner emissions ratings. The rx 450h hybrid gets better mileage yet, and is among the cleanest vehicles yet devised by man. the rx 350 and rx 450h are offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system is completely new, lighter and more efficient. It works electronically without the locking center differential in previous models. the rx 350 comes with a 3. 5-liter v6 mated to a six-speed automatic multi-mode transmission. Compared to the current model, the rx 350 is a little heavier due to stouter rear suspension components, which provide upgraded crash performance. lineupthe 2010 lexus rx 350 comes with front-wheel drive 37,625) or all-wheel drive 39,025). In essence, the rounded egg-shaped body has been redefined at the corners to retain fluid rx cues in an updated format. in the process, the new rx got slipperier, with a coefficient of drag of 0. 33, down from 0. 35. the rx has a new keyless entry system that has a better-integrated sensor on the front doors. It looks sleeker, and the door handles themselves have been redesigned for a more comfortable grip. Fog lamps are integrated into the front bumper, and the outside mirrors are heated. the rx 450h is distinguished by a different, more finely slotted grille and front bumper treatment, and by energy-saving led headlights that are exclusive to the hybrid. Both the rx 350 and rx 450h have led brake lights and turn signals, but the hybrid has auto-dimming outside mirrors. The 450h also has blue emblems and logos, and is available in an exclusive white pearl color. the rx comes with 18-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels with 235/60r18 tires; 19-inch wheels are available as part of the sport package or as a stand-alone option. interiorit's strangely exciting to sit in the cockpit of the new lexus rx 350 and rx 450h. There is a sensation of having so much to do, just like configuring a new computer. There are seating adjustments to lock in, preferences for the remote touch controller, operating modes to select and dashboard combinations to try out. We have a feeling an rx owner would be surprised to discover new features after months of ownership. the rx comes to life with the push of a button. The instruments are bright and engaging, and shaded from outside light. The seats now have slightly higher side bolsters for support during cornering, but they're still easy to get into. Mood lighting in the footwells and cabin supports a sense of quality and well-being. the new cockpit provides a step up in sophistication, conveyed in part by a gifted design scheme that includes no straight lines or sharp corners. Every element of the interior is curved, arched or rounded in some way, so lines blend with subtle grace and harmony. California walnut wood trim accents are mixed with three different interior color combinations, complementing black, light gray, and parchment tones. the cockpit is divided into two separate zones. The first is for information functions, located higher up where they are easy to see. The second is for control functions, located lower and within easy reach of both front seat occupants. This division is made possible by remote touch. the remote touch system is essentially a computer mouse. This mouse will be immediately familiar to anyone who has used a computer. It replaces the need to reach out and touch the screen to use the navigation system, or adjust audio or climate settings. We found it was simple to use while driving. It allowed us to avoid focusing on the navi screen to tune the climate control or turn down the volume. Plus, no more fingerprints on the screen. the center console is bridge-like with open storage under the center. The shifter is immediately above the remote touch mouse. there are a number of redundant hard buttons on the steering wheel, and at various points on the dash, 52 in all, but the remote touch mouse really does reduce the need to use them. The system runs from a hard disc, not a dvd, so it's faster and allegedly smarter than the previous system. Three services are available: real-time traffic, advance weather forecasts and xm satellite radio. A 12-speaker system comes with the navigation system, and a 15-speaker mark levinson surround sound system is available for those who require an audio system consistent with the very best home systems. the front seats now have longer cushions, with higher backrests, and are fitted with active headrests as standard equipment. The headrests are designed to adjust upward in the event of a rear-end collision, reducing whiplash. Because of the active headrests, rear-seat entertainment screens are independently mounted in pods behind the headrests. The two seven-inch lcd screens can operate separat.

It rides more quietly than most cars, not to mention most suvs. It glides over bumpy roads. It's very easy to drive with light steering and excellent brakes. Even more important, it's equipped with the latest in passive safety features, including seven airbags. with the rx series, lexus pioneered the crossover style of suv, based on a unibody car platform rather than a heavy-duty truck frame; and in the process set new standards for the modern luxury utility. Crossover utility vehicles offer better ride and handling than truck-based suvs, but with more cargo room than a car, a better view over traffic and a sense of security from an elevated driving position. Granted, crossover vehicles offer neither the big towing capacity nor the off-road capability of a true truck. But the rx 330 handles gravel roads just fine and can tow up to 3500 pounds with the optional trailer package. redesigned for the 2004 model year, the rx 330 has been refined for 2006 with two-way power lumbar support for the front passenger seat, an led glovebox lamp, and anti-theft headlamps. lineupthe 2006 lexus rx 330 is available with a choice of front-wheel drive 36,370) or all-wheel drive 37,770). Both are powered by a sophisticated dual overhead-cam v6 engine with variable valve timing, driving through a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Cloth upholstery comes standard. the premium package 2,145) includes leather upholstery, power tilt/telescope steering wheel, roof rack, and a one-touch moonroof. The premium plus package 2,960) adds to that high-intensity discharge headlamps with an adaptive front lighting system and a steering wheel trimmed in wood and leather. The side curtain airbags extend to help protect rear-seat passengers as well, and respond to a rollover sensor in addition to the usual decelerometer. walkaroundthe lexus rx was among the first to introduce a zoomy new design theme to the suv market and this second-generation model builds on the style set by the original rx 300. The rx 330's raked-back front fascia and headlamps are reminiscent of the lexus es 330 sedan. a beefy front bumper and pronounced fender flares are designed to suggest the rx is capable of venturing off the pavement. Afs comes on all rx 330s with high-intensity discharge (hid) headlamps. For 2006, lexus has made these pricey headlamps harder to steal. the rear view of the rx 330 reveals a visor-like spoiler over the top edge of the rear window, a short radio antenna at the right rear corner of the roof (promising better reception in marginal areas than the also-included imbedded-in-glass type), and clear-lens taillamps. like the toyota highlander, the rx 330 is built on the same platform (with modifications) as the toyota camry and lexus es 330 sedans. interiorthe rx 330's cabin is luxurious and inviting. The optional leather is soft and slightly bunched. Splashes of real wood trim adorn the doors and center console. getting in is easy, with no need to climb up or duck down. The front seats are positioned off the floor at a comfortable chair height and are snug and supportive. The seats are relatively flat, making it easy to get in and out. They adjust every which way, though not all of us can seem to get completely comfortable. Foldable armrests on both front seats provide additional comfort on longer trips. The center dash area is framed in metallic-looking plastic topped with a pair of air vents. The center stack is dominated by the available seven-inch display. This screen is used for climate control and trip computer functions, as well as displaying the outside temperature and clock (with alarm). It's also used by the optional navigation system and rear-view camera. The camera is automatically activated when the transmission is shifted into reverse. The radio has big knobs for volume and tuning that are easy to use. The lexus premium audio is a 132-watt, eight-speaker system with am/fm/cassette/cd. The optional mark levinson audio system features 11 speakers, 210 watts and an in-dash, 6-disc cd changer. the shifter for the automatic transmission is located on the center dash. This was novel when the rx series first appeared, and has been copied since. There's a folding center armrest with cupholders, storage, and its own wood trim. The rear seats don't fold completely flat, however. Cleverly hidden under the cargo floor are compartments for additional storage. It glides over broken, potholed pavement. Its steering is light and accurate and it feels poised when cornering. Its fully independent suspension helps keep the tires in contact with the pavement for lots of grip. the rx 330 is smooth and quite responsive, particularly around town. Its 3. 3-liter v6 engine rated at 223 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 238 pound-feet of torque at 3600 rpm. (that's a little less than last year's ratings because the society of automotive engineers, or sae, revised its testing standards for horsepower and torque. The 2006 is just as powerful as the 2005 engine. We found throttle tip-in overly sensitive at times, but quickly adapted for smooth take-offs. Lexus says the all-wheel drive rx 330 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 8 seconds and ru.
